Well I've done grant reviews. I do it for multiple reasons.
One, I think it's important to give back and to be part of the process. So often times when we get a score on our grants we initially blame the reviewer, so I think it's important to be part of that process. We always want people who have grants to review grants, so if you have an invitation to review grants, why not? It's a lot of work, but I think it's certainly something that everybody should consider at some point in their career.
And two, I do it cause I think it's a great experience. I think you learn a lot from reading other people's grants, from reading the way that they design and conceptualize studies. And you always, after reading an application, other wheels that weren't turning before all of a sudden start turning in different directions.
