José Szapocznik

José Szapocznik, Ph.D.

Dr. Szapocznik's primary research interest is family therapy with minority youth populations with drug abusing or problem behaviors. He developed Brief Strategic Family Therapy and is the Principal Investigator of the Florida node of the National Clinical Trials Network on Drug Abuse, which translates clinical research into clinical practice. He is also interested in interdisciplinary research and is involved in studies examining how built environment affects school-age Hispanic children's behavioral adjustment, the psychological and physical adjustment of Hispanic elders, and the risks to weight gain inherent in immigration.
